Bureau Veritas Certification Accredited for FSSC 22000 by UKAS
Neuilly sur Seine (France), January 6 2011 - Bureau Veritas Certification is pleased to announce that it has been recently accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for the FSSC 22000 scheme.
What is FSSC 22000?
FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification 22000) is a certification scheme to food manufacturers, owned by the Foundation of Food Safety Certification. This scheme is intended for the audit and certification of manufacturing and processing of food ingredients and food products. Its development was supported by the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the European Union (CIAA). The content of FSSC 22000 scheme has been benchmarked and approved by Global Food Safety Initiative, in February 2010. Today, this standard has the same acceptance as BRC and IFS standards.

What are the requirements?
To meet this certification scheme, manufacturers must take into account the following pre-requisites:
- Food Safety Management System, accordingly with ISO 22000:2005;
- Pre-requisite programs, as laid down on the ISO/TS 22002-1 or BSI-PAS 220:2008;
- Additional requirements.
Who is concerned?
This scheme applies to:
- Perishable animal products, excluding slaughtering and pre-slaughtering (i.e. meat, poultry, eggs, dairy and fish products);
- Perishable vegetal products (i.e. packaged fresh fruits and fresh juices, preserved fruits, packaged fresh vegetables, preserved vegetables);
- Products with long shelf life at ambient temperature (i.e. canned products, biscuits, snacks, oil, drinking water, beverages, pasta, flour, sugar, salt);
- (Bio)chemical products for food manufacturing (i.e. vitamins additives and biocultures) but excluding technical and technological aids.
